PLAYING ON THE PINN

  • Vimeo

"After the sudden loss of her Mountaineering musician husband, Rachel Bolton decides not only to climb the Pinnacle but to play her fiddle to him on the top" - Filmuphigh (2017).

In August 2017, I was commissioned to record and mix some original pieces for a independant film called "Playing On The Pinn." The star of the film Rachael and her musical partner in crime Ian Wilson had composed pieces for the feature.

The pieces were composed on a viola, mandola as well as an accordion, so research went into the recording techniques of each various instrument. Rachael also wanted to record a few keyboard pieces, as well as playing some pieces in a church due to the acoustic benefits. My plan towards this was to record a few pieces in my apartment to get a dry sound which could act as a blank canvas, which I could use. Then record some other pieces in a church to give an atmospheric and romantic acoustic space to the pieces. And finally record the keyboard pieces dry and straight into my computer to which I could edit later.

The tracks were then mixed to an industry standard and sent to the client. Soon after, I got a link for the final cut and was very pleased to see that my music had enhanced the final product. For more information on how to see the film a link will be attached. The film has gone on to win awards from the Mountain Film Festival and The Main Outdoor Film Festival.
